Summer Bridge FAQ

What is the Summer Bridge Program?

Summer Bridge is an 8-week rigorous program designed to determine if students have what it takes to progress and graduate from the University.  During the program students will take courses designed to improve academic skills and strengthen student awareness and responsibility. Students must pass all courses with a “C” or better to be admitted into APEX Scholars in the fall.

Can I commute from home and participate in Summer Bridge?

Students will be required to stay on campus and participate in scheduled activities promoting student success. Students will live on campus Sunday evening through Thursday evening. Students have Fridays off to take care of any personal business so as to not interrupt the regular flow of classes and workshops during the week. 

Can students have cars on campus during Summer Bridge?

Students are not allowed to have cars campus during Summer Bridge. Transportation to and from campus (Sunday check-in and Thursday check-out) are the responsibility of the student and parent.

Can students have visitors or overnight guests during Summer Bridge?

Students check-out of the residence hall every Thursday by 7:00 p.m., and check-in Sunday at 6:00 p.m.  Families may visit their students' room at check-in and check-out each week. There are no visitation hours or overnight guests during the week.

Can students work and participate in Summer Bridge?

Summer Bridge is a comprehensive program. Due to the intensity of classes, workshops, tutorials, and residential activities, as well as restrictions on leaving our campus, students are not permitted to work Sunday evening through Thursday evening each week during the program.  It is possible for students to work Friday to Sunday morning, however students must be mindful to keep up with weekend assignments.

How much does the Summer Bridge program cost?

The Summer Bridge program is offered at no charge to all students selected to participate. This includes housing, meals and instructional supplies.
