Summer Bridge

What is Summer Bridge?

The 2022 APEX Summer Bridge program is a challenging 8-week program designed to provide students with a running start to their college education at Wayne State.  Students will take courses designed to further enhance their academic skills and strengthen their collegiate awareness and responsibility. Students must pass each of their courses with a "C" grade or better to be admitted into APEX Scholars and continue at WSU for the Fall semester.

Summer Bridge is offered at no charge to all students selected to participate.  This includes room and board, tuition, fees, books, and course materials for the Summer session only.

The Summer Bridge will be in session each week from Sunday evening through Thursday afternoon.  Students are expected to return home for the weekends.

Attendance to all class sessions, meetings, workshops, study sessions, and seminars is mandatory.

Things for Students & Parents/Guardians to Know:

  • Our plan is to offer the 2022 Summer Bridge on campus.  Therefore, students admitted to Summer Bridge should plan to move into the residence hall for the 8-week program on Sunday, June 26, 2022.  In the event that safety precautions related to the COVID-19 Pandemic prevent this, Summer Bridge 2021 may not have a residential component. In this scenario, classes and program activities will take place online.
  • Students are expected to be present and participate in online classes and activities from Monday – Thursday.  Individual schedules will vary depending on their intended major.
  • Students must adhere to the WSU Student Code of Conduct
  • The FAFSA for the Academic year 2022-2023 must be completed prior to the beginning of the Fall Term.  To be eligible for maximum awards, please complete the FAFSA by March 1, 2022.
  • All students wishing to reside on campus in the Residence Halls for Fall 2022 must complete the housing application and pay the application fee. Information on housing and the application can be found here:
  • Students who do not successfully complete the Summer Bridge program will not be admitted to APEX Scholars or Wayne State University for the Fall semester.

  • Because of the extraordinary variety of religious affiliations of the University student body and staff, the Academic Calendar makes no provisions for religious holidays. However, it is University policy to respect the faith and religious obligations of the individual. Students with classes or examinations that conflict with their religious observances are expected to notify their instructors and advisors well in advance so that mutually agreeable alternatives may be worked out.

Students will receive orientation information after confirmation of admission to the Bridge program.

APEX Summer Bridge Orientation is only for students and parents of ADMITTED Summer Bridge participants.
